At the Institute of Applied Physics, we are committed to cultivating cutting-edge research and educational environments for the next generation of African physicists and faculty. Our research spans a wide array of fields, including Condensed Matter Physics, Nanoscience, Optics, Photonics, and Particles and Nuclear Physics, offering diverse opportunities for exploration and discovery.
Exciting developments are underway at UM6P’s Institute of Applied Physics. In 2025, we will inaugurate a state-of-the-art laboratory dedicated to research and training in 2D semiconductors and Terahertz Photonics. This new facility underscores our commitment to pushing the boundaries of scientific exploration and innovation.

Our research members collaborate with students, postdoctoral fellows, and visiting scholars from all over the world, fostering a culture of collaboration and shared knowledge. As part of our mission to train a new generation of African physicists and faculty members, we provide numerous industry partnerships and interdisciplinary initiatives.

Research at the Institute of Applied Physics is distinguished by strong collaboration, shared simulation tools, and top-quality experimental efforts. Our collective research efforts encompass various aspects of modern science, including Nanoscience, Ultrafast Optics, Low-Temperature Physics, Applied Quantum Physics, Nuclear Reactor Physics, Particle Physics, and Cosmic Wave Background studies.
