Title: The Institute for Collider Particle Physics in South Africa: scope and vision

Abstract: The Institute for Collider Particle Physics comprises three institutions in South Africa: the University of Zululand, iThemba LABS of the National Research Foundation and the University of the Witwatersrand. With over 60 members, it covers a range of activities, mostly revolving around projects at the ATLAS experiment at CERN and technology transfer. These include, maintenance, operations, upgrade of the detector, data analysis, phenomenology and various projects in technology transfer. These activities will be summarized together with the ICPP’s efforts in human capacity development in the South African context.

About the Speaker: Bruce Mellado is the Director of the Wits Institute for Collider Particle Physics at the University of Witwatersrand in South Africa.
